Divisible by 4

This topic is on divisibility rule of 4 and will provide examples on the same.

Divisibility Rule of 4: If the last two digits of the number is divisible by 4 then the whole number is divisible by 4

For Example: 524

The last two digit of the number is 24 which is divisible by 4. That is 24/4 = 6. Hence 524 is also divisible by 4

Here are few examples on the divisibility rule of 4:

1. Check whether the following numbers are divisible by 4 or not?

(i) 656

(ii) 740

(iii) 123

(iv) 115

(v) 220

(vi) 996

(v) 425

(vi) 7896

(vii) 8430

(viii) 1136

(ix) 729

(x) 452

Solution:

(i) 656

The last two digit 56 is divisible by 4 i.e. 56/4 = 14. Hence 656 is divisible by 4

(ii) 740

The last two digit 40 is divisible by 4 i.e. 40/4 = 10. Hence 740 is divisible by 4

(iii) 123

23 the last two digit of 123 is not divisible by 4 hence the number 123 is not divisible by 4

(iv) 115

The last two digit 15 is not divisible by 4 hence the number 115 is not divisible by 4

(v) 220

20 is divisible by 4 i.e. 20/4 = 5. Hence 220 is divisible by 4

(vi) 996

The last two digit 96 is divisible by 4 i.e. 96/4 = 24. Hence 996 is divisible by 4

(v) 425

25 is the last two digit of 425 is not divisible by 4 hence the number 425 is not divisible by 4

(vi) 7896

The last two digits of 7896 are 96. 96 is divisible by 4 i.e. 96/4 = 24. Hence, 7896 is divisible by 4

(vii) 8430

The last two digits of 8430 are 30. 30 is not divisible by 4 hence, 8430 is not divisible by 4

viii) 1136

36 is divisible by 4. That is 36/4 = 9. Hence, 1136 is divisible by 4

(ix) 729

The last two digit 29 is not divisible by 4 hence the number 729 is not divisible by 4

(x) 452

In 452 the last two digit is 52 and 52/4 = 13 hence 452 is divisible by 4

2. Fill in the blanks with digit such that the number becomes divisible by 4:

(i) 2 …. 8

(ii) 56 …. 0

(iii) …. 56

(iv) 89 ….

(v) 6 …. 6

(vi) 46 ….

(vii) 566….

(viii) 25 ….

(ix) 8 …. 0

(x) 36 ….

Solution:

(i) 288

(ii) 5600

(iii) 956

(iv) 896

(v) 636

(vi) 464

(vii) 5660

(viii) 252

ix) 800

(x) 364

Explanation:

Digits are filled in such a way such that the last two digits are made divisible by 4. Since last two digits are divisible by 4 the whole number is divisible by 4

3. Rewrite the series with the numbers that are divisible by 4 with red color.

56        84        859      664      753      8432    996      164      204      375      1172    888      553

Solution:

56        84        859      664      753      8432    996      164      204      375      1172    888      553
