Needs of Water

Needs of water is essential for all living things to stay alive. Water is also one of basic needs. All things need water to keep alive. Human beings, animals, birds and plants; all need water. We need water for many purposes.


Uses of water:

We drink water when we are thirsty. We should drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of clean water daily. We need water for washing clothes. We need water for mopping floor, cleaning utensils, etc. We need water for bathing. We need water to cook our food.  Water is needed for putting-off fire. Water is one of the modes of transport. Water is needed for transportation.

Animal also cannot live without water. Almost all animals drink water. They also take a bath in water of rivers, ponds or lakes.

Plants also need water to keep alive. Plants need water to germinate and grow. They use water to prepare their food. Farmers need water to irrigate their crops.

The water of seas, rivers, lakes, etc. is the home place of many animals. We do boating and swimming in the water of rivers, lakes, etc. Water is also used to produce electricity.


Water – A Natural Resource:

Things that are available in nature are called natural resources. Water is natural resources. It is available in oceans, seas, rivers, ponds, lakes, wells and under the ground.

Although, water is a natural resource, water required for drinking, cooking, washing, cleaning, etc. is not abundant. Water is precious. We should not waste water. Rain water is stored in dams.
